I'm Here

Well... I finally made it here. The train ride wasn't too bad. I left Milwaukee at 3 and got into Chicago at about 4:30 yesterday. I had a bit of a wait and then we left out of Chicago at about 7. The train seems to have gotten a bit behind at some point. I remember going to bed at about 4:30 AM Eastern time and waking up at about 5:30 in Pittsburgh. And then I'd wake up again... and we'd still be in Pittsburgh. And then again. And again. I started getting freaked out that I was in some even crueler version of Groundhog's Day: Pittsburgh Edition. Thankfully I eventually got up and saw Pittsburgh no more.

I got into DC around 2:30ish and got on the subway to go home. My bags were heavy and big. It was kind of a chore to move them around on a weekday in the subway.

Now I have a week with very little to do before classes start on Monday. My only plans are to drive around on the moped and try to get some of my routes to downtown and school figured out. I think I'll also go to the Smithsonian sometime this week. Maybe some shopping. Probably a lot of sleeping. On Saturday there is a grad student orientation thing. I suppose it might be a good idea to go.

I'm sure I'll post something a bit more meaningful about my first few days here, but right now I'm too lazy and tired from the train ride.

I know a number of people were asking for me to post up pictures of my apartment. Unfortunately, I forgot my digital camera on the counter at my parent's house. It is on it's way out here, however, and I will post up some pictures as soon as it gets here.

Dominus Vobiscum,
Taylor

  1. WELL....I have read this Blog since day one, which of course for me is something quite new---a blog I mean is something new, not reading. And I can hear you saying under your breath "mom you are getting old", which is better than the alternative. But, I was in tears of course and have thought about what to add and here goes...
first I am so proud that you have taken this exciting step, although of course I will worry about mom things, which I will do even when you send your child off to college in a far away place. But there is a quote by someone and it seems appropriate..."Eighty percent of success is showing up", now I am sure you think I pulled that from some wierd old person's book, and you are exactly correct, the famous Woody Allen!!!
    Enough said there.
What can I say... I am extremely proud that you made such effort to make this happen..I always knew that you had to go beyond Oshkosh, and I am not surprised that you did it.
You will have some great experiences and I look forward to hearing about them all...but I of course could not end this without saying " Make sure you do your homework and clean your apartment" What are moms for anyway?
Thanks for being an amazing son.
    Love you
    MOM

  2. Aww thanks mom. You're not that old. You've got decades and decades without Keaton or I messing the place up to look forward to. Anyway, things have been going well and I'm already getting my surroundings figured out. I'm already looking forward to having you guys come out here again.

Well, I'm sure I'll talk to you soon and you can rest assured that my apartment is extremely clean. I've been cleaning here and there every night keeping it niiiice. I need to figure out where to get some quarters though so I can do some laundry.

    Love,
    Taylor
